1st April

Orissa became a new state and oriya became a special language on 1st April 1936.From that day we are the men of Orissa observe 1st April as "Utkal Divas".

Kabi Samrat

Upendra Bhanja also know as Kabi Samrat .Who was born in kullada Which is near Bhanjanagar which is the subdivision of Ganjam.Upendra Bhanja is a great poet who wrote Labanyabati, Kotibrahmanda sundari, Baidehis Bilas,Gitabhidhan etc .All his poems are covered with chhand,Alankar.
Utkal Mani Gopabandhu had said in his book "Abkash Chinta"
in oriya
"He kabishekhar Bhanja Birabar
Kotiutkal Santane
Aji Nabajuge Dhanya Dhanyabad
Karuchanti tumbhaneme
Gae tumbha gita Sabhare pandita
Pathaprante hrustamana
Bile bole chasa antapure josa
nrutyarange barangana"
So Upendra bhanja is a great poet .
